I actually wasn't planning on it, but it was my last day at my 2nd job today, and I got off 2 hours early from the clinic, so it worked out
I decided to go ahead and do the class, for several reasons. First, it never hurts to learn from another trainer. But also, my dad isn't all to familiar with rally. Sure, he has the ability to train for it, but he doesn't know the ins and outs of it. And yes, I have the ability to train, too, however I'm not as confident as I could be. I'd like to have someone to show me the ropes.
Class went well. We just did the about turns, 360s, 270s, and some other simple things. The class is small, only 4 dogs plus the instructor's dog. There's Gavroche, a great dane, a shih tzu, and a beagle mix, and then the instructor's what looks to me a husky mix. I learned today that aKC changes the way it's doing mixed breeds, and mixed breeders were invited to the Sunflower Cluster and a couple others that are coming up, so even if Gavroche's :blink:tuff doesn't come back as boxer, we will be able to go as a mix. I'm way behind with those, so I'm mailing both AKC and UKC tomorrow.
I think the show we're aiming for is March 12, which is right after the end of the 6 week session. It'll be a nice practice run for the Cluster, and there may be a couple between the two we can go to.
Now, what was nice for a change was being with other dogs that are well behaved and trained! About halfway through the class we all had our dogs in down stays unsupervised while we walked a course, and when we were finished each one of them was still in a down stay. It was also cool seeing a dane and a shih tzu next to eachother being well0behaved...got the whole spectrum of dogs there
