I've got the craft-making bug again. Well, at least I have the craft-planning bug. It remains to be seen whether I will carry out any of my plans.
I recently got a bunch of my stuff out of storage. I've had many, many boxes of things stored in my grandmother's garage for about 10 years. Some of those boxes contain my model horse stuff.
I now have two of the buildings and about half of my models. I guess the remaining stable, horses, and tack is either still in Grandma's garage or possibly in my mother's attic.
Part of me thinks it's silly to still be so fond of toys, but I also think that model horses are one of those hobbies that can grow with a person. I look at what some artists have done with miniatures and I am in awe. I want to make art like that. I want to make things that look so good, and are so detailed that people have to look twice to realize that it's a tenth of the size of the real thing.
I made some tack and accessories myself when I was a kid. I wasn't very good at it, but it was good enough for me because what I lacked in skill (and decent materials) I made up for with enthusiasm and imagination. Now that I have more patience and access to materials, I'd like to make the miniatures that I imagined then, plus the other ideas that have been simmering in my head for the past few days.
There's also some boxes of original My Little Pony toys in my mother's attic. They were the horses that I had before I had the Breyer models. They were also well-loved, and are in much worse condition because they were subjected to multiple epic bathtub sea battles, which lead my mother to drill holes in the bottoms of their hooves so they'd drain more quickly! I've heard of people remaking MLP figures and I'd like to try my hand at that as well.
The dog portion of my dog-and-pony show will be my attempt to make accurate reproductions of service dog gear for the Breyer dogs that I have.
I promise to post photos if I ever get past the idea stage into the execution stage.
