Thanksgiving Proofing
« on: November 28, 2008, 05:19:49 PM »
I don't know if any of you took advantage of Thanksgiving to work on proofing, I did. Well, some of you may not have many people around on Thanksgiving and some don't celebrate it I'm sure. But here there were lots of people and lots of enticing food. Not only that, but we had two Thanksgivings.

It was pretty awesome. I told Nala down stay and she was there for about an hour. Sure, she looked around at food, but she stayed in one spot. Pretty cool, especially with all of the people too. She loves attention yet she didn't go off begging for it. Today I was even able to put her a couple of feet behind my nephew who is beginning to overcome his fear of dogs. He was fine with her. So that is a success on two counts :tongue2:, three if you count the fact that I lived through two Thanksgivings.

congrats, on the training/jproofing at thanksgiving,

Our kids were outside most of the day and were brought in and fed in their individual kennels just before company arrived. We did not do any proofing while company was here their just was not enough room for all of them to be out with company. I had done lots of proofing and reminding in the previous weeks tho in preparation for going to Denver for the Weekend. We got  lots of comments on the behavior of our boys tho so it paid off. We stayed in a pet friendly hotel and got compliments from the staff, on how quiet and well behaved our boys were, the fact we put down blankets for them on the floor and did not allow them on the beds. we picked up after our boys and did not let them water the plants by the door way, they lay quietly at our feet when we ate breakfast etc... They invited us to come back and stay anytime. I did have a run in with a lady and her small papillion who tried to attack Neiko/Moroni when we went out the door, and who she let poo by the front door and was not going to pick it up (till I offered her a poo bag) and was real offended by my offer.

That sounds like a success! Dogs can be not so well behaved at dog friendly hotels. I have been to a few and have had dogs bark at any other dog, including Nala (who was pretty well behaved)
