I Actually Got a Puppy!
« on: July 17, 2016, 04:45:55 PM »
Amazingly, I have actually gotten to this point. X- P After a year of puppy sitting for our local GDB club, yesterday I picked up my first puppy in training. She will be with me for about a year (until GDB recalls her to formal training), but for now, she's just napping on the floor by my chair! She really likes naps. :- P

So, I'd like to introduce Cambrie! She is a female yellow lab, born 5/14/16.

And I'm a terrible raiser. X- P I let my puppy get stepped on by a dinosaur!

(For anyone who doesn't want to follow the link - It's a picture of Cambrie asleep against the fence of her expen, with a Nylabone dinosaur toy set on her back and leaned against the fence. Not a real dino!)

No, I don't. Some googling told me that there is also an actress by the name, but not much else other than that.

I didn't get to name her, the people at GDB do that. :- P I didn't even know her name until she was handed to me!

The two sisters I know of so far are Cabaret and Callie, although there's three more girls that I don't know the names of yet!

Congratulations!! She is adorable!!

I know GDB has alphabet litters --so she must be from the "C" litter this year. We have another member (who I haven't seen in a while) whose wife has a guide from GDB and who is a puppy raiser also.

Yep! She's a C litter, although they have so many that they reuse the letters (not the names) a couple of times a year. X- P

I believe I'm friends with the person you're talking about on Facebook! If it is him, he's doing well but no longer has a club in his area, so he's looking at raising for a more local organization instead. :- )

And thank you to everyone else, of course. <3 I'm excited to see what the next year will bring for us!

she's adorable love the name. I have many GOB guide owners as friends, they do a fairly decent job making them reasonable. the once's I can think of off the top of my head are Stella, Clarissa, Guinevere(guin),  tensile, Wado, Image, Nalaine and Dexter, some on that list are retired though

bummer you don't get to name them I'm pretty sure TSE lets the puppy raisers name the pups within the letter given and as long as the dog name isn't currently active (meaning a dog is not currently in training or working for them any longer)

I much prefer the ones that theme the litter names

I think you lucked out with your name though:) Cambrie is so cute and she looks like it
Theodore(Teddy)SD you truly gods gift to me.
Abigail(retired SD you may not physically be with me but your wings and protection will always be in my heart.

TSE reuses names before the dog has died or retired partly because they ran out of decent names. And they name them not the puppy raisers, leader has the puppy raisers name them though.

Thanks for the info! I like knowing how other organizations do their naming too, but I only have experience with GDB and a little bit with CCI (I think they do add roman numerals at the end but I'm not sure in which cases/which dogs get reused).

She's doing great, she's settled in nicely. We're slowly expanding her world (while supervised) to the living room. :- P She's still in her ex-pen next to me when I need to work, though, just so she's always in my sight and can't wander.
