Book... "From Shelter to Service Dog"
« on: March 27, 2014, 01:05:46 PM »
We got the book "From Shelter to Service Dog" a couple of days ago. My wife read it the day it came in and I am reading it at a more leisurely pace.  I am really pleased with it.  It is not a book that teaches you to train a service dog, but a book that helps you understand your dogs.  Several things we read in it we have already implemented in our pack.  I can't say enough about the insight that it gives, especially to beginner "wanna be" trainers.  The book is by Rick and Heather Dillender.

Can you give an example of something new you learned from the book?

I just purchased this book and took a peak at their website.

First impressions -
- It's a publication from Rick and Heather Dillender, the owners of A Fresh Perspective Dog Training in Albuquerque, New Mexico
- The dogs vest on the cover reads "Instructor Service Dog Access Required By Law"
- Roughly 217 pages, print is about 13pt font
- Topics include - a dogs needs, food, social interactions, safety, social order, discipline, fear, development stages of puppies, appropriate play, aggression and reactivity, etc.
- Printed cost is $10.95 I purchased it through Amazon for $9.08

"Instructor Service Dog Access Required By Law"

That makes no sense at all.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking and it was the first thing that jumped out at me as a red flag.
It's 3 separate patches.

They also seem to have a "head halter for every dog" mentality (based on pictures).

I'm listening to their 22 minute video that is on their website right now.

Your eyes are better than mine.  I can't make out the smaller print on the patches other than the one that says, "service dog."
