Quill: Story of a Guide Dog
« on: July 13, 2012, 10:22:18 PM »
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZmubYFpAic

I found a movie onDemand recently about a Japanese guide dog and thought you guys would want to know too!  The story is about Quill, an adorable lab puppy who is chosen to be a guide dog.  The movie follows him throughout his entire life...from first days to last days.  This movie is very cute and I thought it was cool to see a guide dog school in Japan!  Did you know they use English commands because the dogs get confused when speaking Japanese?!

This is just a story though, and while it sure seems like this is a real family, a real guide dog etc, it is obviously just a movie for entertainment sake.  I have not read up on the movie much but it sure seems like the guide school is real at least!  Maybe you guys could watch it and let me know what you think.

Very cute movie, you will laugh and cry in this movie; but a good balance of both.  Make sure to have a hankey ready prior to watching though.

It's not that dogs have difficulty understanding Japanese words, but rather that men and women are expected to use slightly different vocabulary and it's hard to know ahead of time if the dog will be assigned to a male or female human partner, and it would be embarrassing for a male trainer to use female vocabulary when training the dog (or vice versa).

I know it is avaiable through amazon instant video.  And i am pretty sure you don't  need a kindle to watch it.  It is subbed though  you can buy  it.  I plan to do so in august i have had my eye on this for a while  i think it is 6.95 to rent for x number of days and 26 to buy...

thats cool about the vocab, thanks for clarifying that.  I honestly hadnt even thought about that, but makes a lot of sense!  My sis lived in Japan for a while, so in our house we like just about anything Japanese.  Actually, I told me mom about that movie when I saw it come out for rental but she only seemed mildly interested because I told her it was about a guide dog.  SHE looks through there and gets excited and wants to watch it because it's about a dog....from Japan.  hahaha

To be totally honesnt, I dont know if it is something I would want to watch more than once.  I only mention that for those who might rather rent than buy a movie they miiight not want to watch over and over.  It would be really nice to see some features on the DVD though, or to show to others a movie about a SD.

....the first 5-10 minutes when they show the puppies though is way too cute!

I saw this movie awhile back streaming on netflix.

it was pretty good but it also had some really sad parts....(yes I cried...)

I would recommend it.
