Excess pooping- related to food?
« on: March 28, 2006, 11:57:55 PM »
Maybe it is just me, but how often does a dog poop?  When I had Ginger, she pooped in the morning, and then again after she ate her meals, that was it.  Razel, she poops once in the morning.  Peace, he pooped once in the morning, and then again in the afternoon.  Roxie, she poops in the morning, again around lunch time, and then sometimes twice more in the day.  She always poops before dog class, but that is because I tell her she needs to potty, and she strains to poop (because she most often pees first).  She eats 3 1/2 - 3/4 cups of Nutro Active Formula once a day.  She eats this at 6PM, and doesn't poop again in the evening, unless we have dog school (which like I stated above she strains because I tell her).

Different kibbles can cause a dog to poop more often.  Generally, the less nutritionally dense the food is, the more the dogs needs to eat and the more the dog poops.

Also, some dogs just poop more often than others.  Different dogs have different digestive systems, and one dog's digestive system may be more efficient than another's.

I notice she poops less than she did when she was on the science diet (which is what Razel is on), but then again she was having to eat over 6 cups of it a day.  It doesn't bother me very much that she poops as often as she does, because I know how to deal with it.
