I just don't tell my boy dogs what they're made of.

Now a secret.  Back when I was lobbying the state legislature, I used to keep one in my purse as a power object to counter the testosterone poisoning of the good ol' boys network.

Great. Thanks K. I had to go look up the ingredients as I had always seen "beef tendon" before.  **shudder**

Here I had tried to raise the girls as feminists and telling them they didn't need those things in their lives and you have to try and prove me wrong.

Somehow I see emasculating a bull as rather radical feminism.

True, but you know how much I dislike those "thingies."

That dog chew almost looks like the kurutz we had in Pakistan - maybe it is the same stuff?  It tasted pretty nasty to me, but I could see how a dog would enjoy it.

Let me know how long Cole's lasts.  I'm always looking for good lasting chews for Maigee.  She is a strong chewer and likes to tear just about everything I give her apart.  I did just buy a bully stick for her this week - we'll see how that goes over.

I love new ideas of things to try, thanks for sharing!

~~First Night With First Bully Stick~~
Well, after just over 4 hours of work last night, and 2 so far today, we've gotten through the first 12" of the 24" bully stick. Unfortunately, we had an incident last night. For the first time ever, the dog snapped at the cat. If I'd been paying closer attention, I'd have caught it before it happened. The stick was laying beside Coco, and when Raksha tried to walk past to the other side of the room, Coco snapped at her and grabbed the stick. Luckily, my friend was standing nearby, and the first words out of my mouth were "take it away". So she grabbed Coco by the collar and took the chewy, putting it away ontop of a shelf. That was one upset lil pup last night.

Soooo....other than the new "it's MINE" phenomena.....I'm very much pleased with this chew. With an estimated 12+ hours worth of munch time, I think it'll be a good thing to have around in the future.

I looked around for the chew you're talking about, Kirsten, but didn't see them. I wanna know how long it lasts with your dogs as well. If it can give this one a run for its money, I'm gonna have to get ahold of some!

So far he's only licking it lovingly.  At this rate it will last a decade.  This dog isn't used to bones and may not be aware that something this hard can be chewed.

Ruby has stolen it a few times and run around carrying it, but that is what she typically does with chewies (carries them around for several days before either Cole takes it away from her and consumes it or she gets around to chewing it up herself.  Luna hasn't had a turn with it, but she's a pretty good chewer (understands the concepts and chews hooves).  My dogs do get chewies, I've just always given semi-soft ones like Greenies and Busy Bones,  rawhide dental chews, bully sticks, etc.  What they have never gotten is actual bones.  So I think the hardness is perplexing them.

Gavroche can knock out a 6' bully stick in about 20 minutes  :raspberry:

I may have to try those Yak things for Logan. He's a big chewer, but he can't have much. He can have hooves and turkey necks with supervision. He ued to get nylabones, but yesterday he chewed off some big pieces and puked them back up, so no more for him. He has nothing he can have unsupervised in the way of chewies.

Maigee's bully stick was a 12" braid of three sticks.  It lasted an hour and a half, but was worth the try.  For me, it isn't worth the extra money (I'm on a tight budget).

I'm definitely going to try the yak chews if I can find some nearby in my rural community. Thanks so much for sharing about them

It isn't recommended to give rawhide to dogs, right?  What about pig ears or cow hooves or anything like that?  What about bones that aren't cooked?

Raw bones are great. You still have to watch them like with anything else, but they're excellent. Rawhides can be good or bad, it really depends on the dog. Gavroche can have them if I watch them closely and they're BIG, but he can't have the smaller rawhide chips. Gavroche does like pig ears, tracheas, dried pig hearts, hooves, tendons, bully sticks, pig snouts, etc. You just have to supervise your dog, of course.
