Sensitive Skin Kibble
« on: April 30, 2006, 03:07:07 PM »
So many of us have dogs with sensitive skin that may either be dry and flakey or pron to Hot Spots.

We have a thread going for supplements that help sensitive skin, but I thought it would be helpful to have a thread just for kibble for these itchy babies.

Remember our stand here is research, ask questions, read ingredient lists, and then make an informed decision. Each dog is different and it is up to the owner to make the best choice for their own dog.

I've been hearing a lot of good things on the Pro Plan line from breeders and owners.

I myself have been using this particular product for the last month when I want to add a kibble to my dogs' diet. My working dog does very well on a high fish diet and all four of mine love it.

This kibble is good for those dogs that can not tolerate flax seed. But it does have brewers dried yeast which causes problems with some dogs.

Biotin and antioxidants are wonderful for skin problems and are in many of the products sold for just this purpose.

If giving garlic to your dog as a flea preventative take note that this product does have garlic oil and you might want to decrease any garlic supplement given.

My breeder has fed ProPlan for years and is quite happy with it.  Cole did well on it, on the active formula.  I switched to Science Diet because I could get it donated and considered the two foods to be equivalent for my dogs.

You should consider joining the ProClub.  You save weight circles and then redeem them for coupons.  I calculated it out once, and I got the equivalent of $4.12 in coupons for each weight circle I submitted.  You must send in a minimum of 500 pounds worth of circles to qualify for the coupons ($60 in coupons for 500 pounds in weight circles).
