If the group for Dals and Poodles were chosen according to original use; they would both be put in Sporting for the AKC.  What is often called the Gun Dog Group in many kennel clubs.

AKC must be thinking Working for Dals because of their later use as carriage dogs.  Not for their earlier use as bird hunting dogs in Yugoslavia.

I agree. To me placing dals in the sporting group would make more sense than putting them in the working group, not because they can't work but because I think they remind me more of a bird dog than a guardian breed.
