Homemade dog treats

I'm baking people treats today, but it reminded me that a few people here have recipes for homemade dog treats. With homemade treats, you can control everything that goes into them, adjusting for your dog's preferences and health needs. Anybody have something to share?

A simple one for dogs who need to be on a special diet.  Take their own food, and make it into a powder with a food processer or blender.  Slowlly add water until you get a paste.  Spread out VERY THIN, or they won't cook in the middle, cookies that will be the size that can be eaten (as they'll be hard to break) anywa, spread on cookie sheet and back on 400 degrees until hard (somedays it take 15 minutes others it takes 45 or longer minutes).  Have fun :smile:

Puree Chicken liver, or beef liver, ( I really think any meat will do) in blender, add a couple eggs, puree some more. Add some garlic powder ( not salt, and NO onions). Then, add water to make kinda soupy-- but not real thin-- gotta experiment here, and you will see why.
 pour into a bowl and then, add regular oatmeal-- until you get a "desired thickness."  Spread evenly onto a  lined cookie sheet or into a lined cake pan, Bake at 350 degrees until "done"  if on a cookie sheet, the mix should be spread thin enough to make "cookies" when broken apart. In a cake pan, you are looking for a brownie type texture, with  the mix being cooked all the way through.

Freezes well- do not store at room temp-- this stuff molds really fast!

Here is another one--and makes good show bait-- even I nibble it, and I really dislike liver!

1 cup of white vinegar
1 cup of sugar
1 pound calf liver
water

Mix sugar and vinegar in a frypan, add the liver-- keeping the slices as separated as possible,  Add water to cover.  Simmer over low heat until liver is cooked through. remove liver and pat dry.  SLice into strips about 1/4 inch wide, and to any length you wish-- I like about 1/2 inch.  Bake on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees- until the chunks are evenly colored and dry-- turn them ever about every 10 minutes to prevent burning.

Some people will salt lighty upon removal from oven

this will keep in your pocket for weeks!!
