The appointment isn't set yet (It'll be made tomorrow), but DP has, again, an issue with his gum around a tooth. If you remember he had this issue awhile ago which required surgery to pull teeth. Before the surgery he was put on antibiotics because he had four teeth which were an issue. While they had him on the table the vet looked closer at all four teeth and saw that two didn't need to be pulled. So they pulled just two. It has been years and there has not been a problem.
Well, Saturday I noticed that he didn't eat all of his food for breakfast. This was the symptom that caused us to take him to the vet last time. I hunted him down and grabbed him and took him to the light. He does not like to be touched on a good day, so holding him is a big NONO. It took about five minutes of fighting and me getting grazed with teeth to figure out how to look at his teeth. I was trying to be kind, but eventually I just had to grab him by his scruff, to prevent being bitten, so while his mouth was open preparing to bite me, I just lifted his lips and examined his teeth. Yep, sure enough, one tooth has gum cover 3/4 of it, and the gum is red and swollen. This happens to be one of the teeth that was an issue the last time. So, tomorrow we'll make an appointment. I'm assuming that as they did last time he'll be put on antibiotics and then I'm hoping we'll reexamine this tooth after two weeks on meds instead of going straight for surgery. If it needs to be done, it'll be done. I just hope he won't need to be put through that stress. So, wish him luck. Let the meds clear up the issue on this tooth, as they did last time.
For those that don't know, this a common issue in cats, though I cannot remember what exactly the vet called it. It only happens in cats. I used to know more information about it, but because it has been years I've forgotten what I knew.
Again, wish him luck that he won't require surgery, and loosing another tooth.
