Asparagus?
« on: December 19, 2011, 12:33:22 AM »
Is it ok for dogs to eat asparagus? I have a box of it in my freezer. I was hoping I would like it, but it turns out to be a bit too mushy and limp for me when cooked. I was wondering if I could supplement Max's dog food with a little of it to use it up rather than throwing it away?

DOn't know if the cats will want it.

I used bits of asparagus as treats for Hope. She loved her veggies!

Oh, Max will eat it. WHen I made the first batch form myself and friend, (just a few spears each), and we didn't like it I gave them to Max, he ate them. I figured the amount was small enough that he would have time to recover from it.

But now that I am planning on feeding him the whole package( a pound ot more), that there would not be any effects from feeding him so much, even if it was a little bit every day.

Thanks guys!

If you fed it all at once it might contribute to some bowl distress. Or he might be fine.

I don't plan on feeding him toe whole package at once, but I might feed him 5 to 10 spears every day until it is gone. Right now I can't afford to buy a lot of treat times, so this would be a way to spoil him without it costing additional money.

Did you know that the chemical that does that is the same as what is in skunk odor?

We gave the 2 dogs and 2 cats a plate of asparagus to share and nearly had a fight on our hands--from animal who ate together all the time. They all wanted the asparagus, the cats actually made the dogs wait until they had their fill.

Christmas Eve breakfast for my pets: Canned cat food (Friskies Mixed grill) and some microwaved frozen asparagus with some vita-coat oil for the Omega fatty acids.

Spike was so eager to get his face in the bowl that I put the cats' bowl out first, I cut up the asparagus in small pieces and didn't mix it too much, so half the bowl is asparagus and the other half the can of cat food/oil. Spike loved the asparagus. Max's bowl I mixed everything together. Hobbes came over and checked out the dog bowl wile SPike was eating, she smelled it, but didn't take a test bite. Max then got to eat.

My dog is so cat whipped (is this a case I can say pussy whipped?) - but he got to eat his whole bowl himself without Spike trying to steal it from him.
