Just toying around
« on: November 14, 2011, 11:59:40 AM »
I was toying around with an online 'movie' maker and this is the result. I kind of like it (although it's nowhere near finished (and probably nowhere near correct either) of course  )

it messes up the abbreviation ADA. I did write it correctly

Maybe write ADA as A. D. A. that way it will say the individual letters. Otherwise it looks good so far.

ADA rules state that a Service animal must be trained to do "work or tasks" that help mitigate a person's disability. THe key word is "Trained" not "help". Simply being present or doing things that are natural behaviors (such as alerting to seizures) do not count as a task. If a person has depression or other mental illnesses, the service animal can be TRAINED to lead the PWD to a quiet area, help them find the car if they are in distress, or training to have a specific response to worsening symptoms. Examples, a Service animal trained to hand money to a cashier is a Service Animal, A dog trained to sit on command is not.

While it might not happen often, a PWD may be taken to court to prive that the dog is trained to respond to the disability, which involves medical records to prove the disability, training logs of the dog, and actual demonstration of tasks.

Emotional Support Animals, do not require training, but also do not have public access rights in the manner a Service Dog does. The Federal Housing Act grants a PWD the right to ask for an accomodation in a "No pet" housing situation with supporting documentation from a medical professional or therapist. These animals are not allowed in "Public" places.

Personally I mingt not use words like "Faker" in a public education piece, as sometimes these people may really believe that the pet is doing Service Dog work - the example you were using about the person with Depression - that person  may really believe that the dog is acting as a service animal; better to educate them rather than insult them. Explaining that Service Dogs are generally trained for 18 to 24 months and must be able to pass a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) and PAT (Public Access Tests) in addition to being trained.  While Emotional Support Animals can take these tests, it is not a requirement for them, and even if they pass these tests it does not make an ESA a Service Dog.

The real fakers are people with no disability who want to take their little pets with them every where because they are just real jerks.

Sounds like the Netherlands are very progressive. My college allows service dogs, no problem, and on a case by case basis companion dogs. You go through the disability resource department and ask for the accommodation.

Just FYI, psychiatric service dogs are just Service Dogs and with some exceptions, most people would not say "it's my psychiatric service dog", legally it's just  a service dog.

Loved the graphics. I took a Flash class, but it looks like you used a pretty sophisticated program there.

lolll just go to www.xtranormal.com and you can make one too. All you have to do is pick the characters, pick the background and write the conversation.

And actually, with SD's we're not progressive at all. No laws means no rights  . I can be refused in every store, they have no obligation to let me in. I have to ask at each store I want to enter if it's okay. I know that one store in my village won't allow it, the rest does.

Well that's a bummer.

Woke up to 30 deg weather this morning and thought it was cold! How cold is it where you are?

I will check out that web site. Flash is fun, but it can give you a headache.

The US National Weather service has a handly little converter from Fahrenheit to celcius.

http://www.wbuf.noaa.gov/tempfc.htm

5 C = 41 F
10 C = 50

minus 1 C = 30 F

0 C = 32 F

I know, there are more websites that do the conversion. I just was too lazy to look for one.

If anyone is willing to write a proper conversation for an educational video (or more then one, is ok with me too), I am willing to make it.
