Yorric ate a whole nectarine about a week after our training finished. I had taken them out of my bag so they wouldn't get squished and sat them on the dining table fully intending on moving them elsewhere and then forgot about them. Later I went to do some things in the kitchen and thought Yorric was fast asleep on his bed the whole time. Clearly he wasn't. Later I looked at the table and went "hey where's my other nectarine?" I left my brother to watch him while I went and had a bath and while I was gone Yorric vomited the whole thing back up. Well my brother, not being familiar with the fact dogs will eat their own vomit, left Yorric alone while he went to get some paper towels and returned to find Yorric gobbling the rest of it back down. After that I was worried and kept a close eye on him and he was fine for the rest of the night. The next morning Yorric woke me 3 times retching and vomitting a little bile each time. He was fine after that and I assumed the fruit had upset his stomach and resolved to keep an eye on him. The next morning he did it again but only a tiny bit came out and as it was the weekend and I would need an emergency vet I decided to just really closely watch him. The following day he did it a third time and I decided it was time to call the vet. I took him in and the vet said either the seed is still in his stomach and upsetting him or he has some sort of gastro bug. He gave him an anti-nausea shot and said if he still vomitted it wasn't a bug and he'd need an xray. The next day no more vomit but nothing out the other end either  and seeing as I was watching for an obstruction I couldn't just assume this was because of the small amount of food he'd been getting. I called the vet late in the day and they said if he still hadn't gone the next morning to bring him in. Well still nothing that morning so off to the vet we went again and Yorric was sedated for an xray. The xray showed no obstruction and I took him home. He did his business later and was fine all of the next day (Friday). Saturday morning (Christmas day and a full week after this incident started) I was once again woken to the sound of retching and got up thinking "no not this again". I sat with him while he retched and when he stopped I looked down thinking "That's strange, nothing came out". Next thing I know Yorric leans down, picks something up and I hear it clicking against his teeth. Realising what it was I immediately opened his mouth to pull out my Christmas present thinking "Oh no you don't". It had been making him sick all week yet he was going to swallow it for a third time and start the whole thing over again.

That was my introduction to the fun (and costs) of having a service dog. This was my first dog since I was really young and I learnt a lot from that incident.

Was it the pit making him sick? I had to read what you wrote 3 times! The last time was because after I read 'christmas present' I had to re-read trying to figure out what your christmas present was and when he had eaten it  :raspberry:

One day Logan stole a peach pit from the garbage. I heard him trying to chew it and took it from him and threw it away again I think. But he got it again. So then I put it on my desk so it would be higher and hopefully out of his reach. But then he swipes it off my desk. I hear him trying to chew it, and exclaim LOGAN! So he SPITS the pit clear across the room and looks at me like "What? I don't have anything..."  I started cracking up.

Sorry about the confusion. I wrote that late last night and probably should have given it a bit more thought before I posted it. Yes the pit is what had been making him sick. Basically it was in his stomach the whole time. He was fine when he had something in his stomach, but when it was empty after a night's sleep it was basically being churned around and around and bothering him. The little piles of goo I kept getting were him trying to get it back out and failing. Finally Christmas morning he succeeded in bringing it up and it felt like a Christmas present to me after a very long week. I also don't think I was very clear when I said nothing came out. What I meant was I thought nothing came out. It blended against the carpet and I didn't see it. Then he grabbed it and I knew exactly what it was in an instant and pulled it out of his mouth realising I'd been wrong in thinking nothing had come up.

Sorry again. Let me know if I'm still not making sense.
