Blech!
« on: June 13, 2011, 12:55:03 PM »
My dad got a letter in the mail asking for support for a guide dog training facility who has a "new" program - tether dogs for autistics   They were all excited about this awesome new opportunity.  The name of the program was a play on the words that mean something like "Fix Autism with Dogs"  What's there to "fix?"   And how does tying a young child to a dog "fix" anything?  Other than maybe "fix" the parents into the mindset that they don't have to parent!

And naturally, they had lots of pictures of cute kids and dogs and stories about how the dogs changed the kid's life and how amazing the program is.  Why can't they stick to what they are good at - Guide Dogs?  Oh...yeah...money.

I was thinking about writing a letter back to the organization explaining why I don't like tether dogs, but I don't know if one person would make a difference at all.
