We have a rule against discussing issues with programs OR endorsing programs in public areas of the forum. State has stated she is willing to discuss what happened by PM, so you can contact her privately to hear what happened.
This situation is an example of why this policy is important. State had a bad experience. Two other members have reported a good experience with the same program. Just as there are some forums or email lists that are better fits for individuals, there are programs that are better fits too. And just because one person had a bad experience (or a good experience) doesn't mean others will have that same experience.
It can get real messy, real fast. My issue is with liability. As the forum administrator, I could get sued for defamation if something bad is said, or false advertising if something good is said. But if whatever is said is said privately, between two people, then I'm out of it. I can't get blamed for defaming an organization or for endorsing one.
For members, it is important to not post some things publicly for the same reason I, as administrator, don't want them posted publicly. It is just plain legally safer. So long as your criticism/endorsement is private, you speak only from your personal experience (not repeating what gossip you've heard), and speak truthfully, all should be well. So that's our policy. Members are allowed to state they had either a good experience or a bad experience with a program, and name that program, and then offer to give details privately. That's all. Call me paranoid, but it's worked well for me since 2002.
The chat room is also fair game for discussions like this if PMs get too cumbersome.
