-9 with an even lower windchill in Colorado
« on: February 01, 2011, 11:09:28 AM »
It is negative nine at almost eleven am   here in Colorado and I know the windchill makes it seem colder.    I   am planning to take  Sophie  out less then I usually do today in order to protect her body temp.   I   have her boots on her, but should I also throw a sweatshirt on her  for todays potty breaks.  We have to walk   kind of far, don 't know the distance to get to her potty spot.    Or will her fur be enough for this extreme cold?    She is a full lab.

17 below here windchill. I have only let my dogs out for 2-3 minutes to potty. They are already lifting their paws up in discomfort... but they did run circles in the yard a few times.

I don't think Sophie will need a sweatshirt. As long as she is not out too long.

:paw: I put shoes on Wisp because with it being so cold she was getting her pads sticking  as she walked in the snow and i was concerned about the icemelt burning her feet. I use socks inside her Ruff Wear Grip Tex since she has her front dewclaws.
She liked not having her feet so cold so was not waving feet at me like she does when she is not wearing the shoes .

Logan went out naked but Gavroche had his pajamas on (it was 5F here...don't know the windchill). They only went out 3 times today and no more than 3 or 4 minutes each time. Gavroche took about 45 seconds each time

:trx: Well night before last was 30 below without wind chill
And last night was 24 below zero farenheit again without wind chill. Was no wind blowing
Tonight it is 24 below zero F and it is just 9:30 PM . So may be another 30 plus below night by dawn.
I hope there is no wind.
The chill factor would put it 40 to 50 below fast. As I was just using my scooter to go one block at 5 MPH with it at 18 below cut righht through me !
Long as it dont hit 30 below or more my pipes wont freeze. Unless the wind kicks up.  :paw:

you can leave your water running just a trickle it will keep it flowing and prevent freezing pipes, we did this all the time in Alaska.

It is FREEZING everywhere!  At least it is supposed to get into the thirties today! yea! But it is supposed to snow.   Sophie is all curled up on my bed  UNDER blankets!  I thinkt hat sounds like a good idea and I am going to   go snuggle with her!

Yesterday about 4:30 started to snow here. Not that bad temp wise - 20* with 10* wind chill. It was sunny this morning so at 9 am too Max for a longer walk, the streets are dry for the most part, and I have used Bag balm a couple times on his pads in the last week as was suggested on this forum. I'm sort of expecting it to be very windy bacause of the clear sky. Temps are going to run 30 for high, about 12 for the low for the next 3 days. Nothing like a -30, but still darn cold for me!
