What do you feed your dog(s)?
« on: January 31, 2011, 07:59:52 PM »
I am interested in what other people feed their dogs as their main diet.  I don't want a heated debate, I'm just curious from a research prospective.  I'll start...

My guys are on a mixture of Earthborne (Midwestern pet foods-manufacturer of Pro PAC as well), and RAW. I also fed several ferrets on a RAW diet and the others are on Innova Evo ferret food. My kitty, Mr.Meow Meow is also on a RAW diet.

I am currently feeding Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice, but I'm considering switching to Pinnacle or TOTW.

Someone gave a web site when I was asking about food, Analysis of Dog Food or something like that?  That site might help you, hopefully someone can chime in with the address.

Ours are on Castor & Pollux Organix (adult formula). are 60lbs and eat 2 cups a piece a day. I like it because it's organic, made right here in Oregon has no wheat, corn, soy or rendered meats.

4Health is made by Diamond and is sold only at Tractor Supply. It's a notch above the Diamond Naturals.

Gavroche eats Taste of the Wild, and I rotate the 4 formulas. The last bag was Lamb because it's lowest calorie and I was still finishing off getting the extra weight off him. Now he's on the wetlands formula (duck) because it's higher in protein to help condition his muscles.

Logan eats Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete. He used to eat the Chicken and Rice formula, but he needed 6 cups a day at pone point and was having a hard time finishing that all off (plus I worried about bloat with him eating so much), so I went to the higher calorie, more nutrient dense version - extreme athlete - to reduce the volume he needs. He's down to about 2 cups a day on that now.

Both dogs get raw meaty bones on occasion, and Gavroche gets raw eggs regularly, though he refuses to eat the shell  They used to get a couple raw meals a week but that's not possible right now. My parents are talking about getting a big freezer, though, so if that happens I'll probably switch Gavroche over to fall or nearly full time raw, and give Logan a couple raw meals a week.

Either Purina or Beneful kibble plus Chef Michaels (purina) or Beneful canned stews. I free feed the kibble, the others are evening dinner with a little flax seed tossed in. Brewers yeast just seemed to make Max itchy, so I stopped putting that in.

He's a good weight and is in good shape and health, even if they might not be the best foods on the market.

Currently Monty and Jess get raw and Niche gets Pinnacle Duck & Potato or Pinnacle Trout & Sweet Potato.  Due to food allergies the only kibble I have found that Jess can successfully eat is Canine Caviar Venison & Split Pea so feeding raw gives her better variety and it is easier to control her weight with raw than it was with the very calorie dense Canine Caviar.  Monty can eat anything, but I have stuff in my freezer that Niche & Jess can't eat due to allergies so Monty gets to eat all of that haha.

Sophie gets grain free  Canidae, the adult formula made for across the lifespan.   She gets  one cup in the morning and two at night.  Depending on her weight check at the vet the ammount could change.    She is not overweight, but  I will  take her weight into consideration when    deciding how much to feed her.  It is dry food.  scheduled twice a day and  she has free water up till nine oclock and gets a fish oil pill each day.

Natural Balance duck and potato. It's one of the few readily available good foods out here. When I move back across the state after graduation, we'll switch back to Orijen.

Pebbles was originally on Wellness Super 5 Mix, but was switched to Solid Gold Holistique Blendz which was available through the local feed store. She did very well on it, maintained a good weight and healthy coat. And I didn't have to feed a whole lot, so a 30 lb. bag would last an entire month!

Marzipan (kitty) currently is eating 1/2 can of Authority cat food in the morning and 1/4-1/2 cup of TOTW (I think Canyon River Feline) dry food in the evening. She's doing very well, though I'm still fiddling with the amounts to keep her at a healthy weight.
Partnered with Leon --successor to Pebbles.
